Sheila - Why I Joined Lions
I joined Lions about 11 years ago to give something back, the reason for this is as follows - I have a mentally and physically disabled son who is now 47. When he was about 9 his younger brother (who was 7 at the time) wrote a letter to Sutton Coldfield Lions Club who had invited siblings to write in to the local paper making a wish for their brother/sister for something special that their brother/sister would dearly like.
My son was chosen and he had wished for a portable 'record player' for his brother to take with us on holidays etc. The wish was granted and Sutton Coldfield Lions brought to my son what his brother had wished for. The record player was a most treasured possession for many years. When my sons Social Services home was opened in 1982 Sutton Coldfield Lions took the home under its wing as the then Presidents' project and did lots of amazing things to help the residents such as provide TV sets, trips out and many many more things, so you see that when I had time on my hands I decided to give something back and join Lions and from then I havent looked back, I have made many friends and joined one enormous happy and helpful FAMILY.
